Sportsbet.com.au Review

Bettingpress Editor Verdict

Hits

  • Nice quick website with no flash graphics to slow down page loading
  • A breathtaking array of horse racing markets and odds at your fingertips
  • A wide range of promotions and offers listed on the homepage, including $100 free bet for new customers

Misses

  • The focus on all things Australian will put off many overseas customers
  • As will the Aussie-friendly opening hours of their customer service teams
  • SportsBet would benefit from reducing the number of clicks required to find a particular market. Once a sport has been clicked on, all options should be listed in the centre of the page.

Odds and Markets

It’s fair to say that racing is Sportsbet’s biggest driver of customers, with a fantastic service being offered for horses and greyhounds. The markets are predominantly focused on Australian racing, so anyone wanting to bet on the 3.10 at Yarmouth will be disappointed. As mentioned, the other sports are kept separate, with roughly 25 available. While it’s an impressive spread, there isn’t a great deal of depth to the coverage, with just a smattering of markets available for the upcoming Champions League games at the time of writing. Once again, you should ‘think Australian’ for the best offerings, and that means Aussie Rules football, tennis and cricket.

Odds-wise, the lines are pretty tight, although it’s easy to do if the WDW market on a football match is the only one being offered. Full marks for including a form guide next to each match being played, which includes a graph which details each team’s performance that season. Sportsbet also provide a tipping competition for their customers, offering extra value, while for racing, they offer something which is described as City Best Plus. This is similar to Best Odds Guaranteed, where the customer receives the better of the dividends declared by the three Australian TAB’s or the Starting Price.

Website

The website is what you might describe as ‘no frills’, although this is by no means a negative comment. Rather than trying to include snazzy flash graphics, Sportsbet keep things nice and simple, with the sports listed in a left-hand menu, the main events neatly profiled in the centre of the homepage and all the latest promotions boxed neatly on the right-hand side. Below the fold, you’ll find a news feed which predominantly focused on Australian sports.

Like several other firms, Sportsbet try to keep their racing and other sports separate, thus reflecting their customer requirements. Clicking on a particular sport in the left-hand menu produces something of a surprise in that the menu disappears and is replaced by further categories. It takes another few clicks to reach the market that you want, although the odds are all presented nicely and placing a bet is a relatively straightforward business. Sportsbet also deserve credit for providing detailed information on their promotions, rather than tucking them away somewhere obscure

Customer Service

SportsBet offer an impressive array of information to ensure they’re on hand to deal with any queries or issues. They have separate phone numbers for general queries or ones that are devoted to qualifying for a free bet. Live chat is also available, although they do lose marks for not providing 24/7 customer service, something that will have to change if they have aspirations to appeal more globally.
