Los Angeles Lakers Lead Western Conference Market

Betting Press Staff - 4 Feb 2010

Utah and Denver are both making some noise.

The Los Angeles Lakers have lost a little bit of ground in the Western Conference, however they still have a lead over the Denver Nuggets by 3.5 games. Here are the odds to win the Western Conference championship (including playoffs) for the top 6 teams in that conference (all odds Players Only):

1.  Los Angeles Lakers, -250 (2/5)
2.  Denver Nuggets, +400 (4/1)
3.  Dallas Mavericks, +700 (7/1)
4.  San Antonio Spurs, +900 (9/1)
5.  Utah Jazz, +1800 (18/1)
6.  Portland Blazers, +1800 (18/1)

Based on the odds, the time to pick the Los Angeles Lakers appears to have come and gone.  With only 2 units of profit to be made for every 5 units bet, the value on the Lakers' price in the futures market is negligible especially since the competition is strong in the Western Conference.

Our recommendation at this point is to bet against Los Angeles.  Denver and Utah have both been playing excellent basketball lately as they have both gone 9-1.  The Western Conference feels as though it has more parity in it than it has in the last couple of years and a new champion could emerge out of that.

Utah's price of +1800 might have some value based on how long the odds are but the Nuggets are a much more talented team and more likely to maintain their high level of play.  +400 (4/1) odds on the Nuggets could still return a nice profit and they seem like bigger contenders than those odds imply.
