Super Six boxing odds: Froch backed to beat Kessler

Betting Press Staff - 8 Dec 2009

Promoter Mick Hennessy is backing Carl Froch to claim an 'away' win against Mikkel Kessler after it was confirmed their Super Six World Boxing Classic clash will take place in Denmark on April 17.

Nottingham fighter Froch began the competition by beating America's Andre Dirrell on a split decision at the Trent FM Arena, with the Cobra also keeping his WBC super-middleweight title as a result of that 26th straight success.

Kessler, meanwhile, started off with a points loss to Andre Ward in California after their bout was stopped due to a cut over the Dane's left eye suffered in an accidental clash of heads.

The Viking Warrior also surrendered his WBA crown as a result, but he has never been beaten in his home country - the only other defeat in a 44-fight pro career coming against Joe Calzaghe in Cardiff.

“It’s an incredible fight between two of the world’s best and most exciting fighters," declared Froch's promoter Hennessy.

"Carl proved with a previous sensational KO over Jermain Taylor that he can go into the lion's den and beat the very best in the world and I’ve no doubt he’ll do that again against Kessler.

“Carl’s been outstanding over the last 12 months. He’s had three massive fights in a row against Jean Pascal to win the title, a win against Taylor in the US to retain it and then opening his Super Six account by handing Dirrell his first defeat.

"He’s shown the kind of mental and physical toughness in those fights that I don’t think any other British fighter in recent times has possessed.”

Bookmakers cannot split the two boxers, though, with Froch available at Evens with Stan James, whilst Kessler can be backed at the same price with sportingbet.

In the market on who will be crowned overall Super Six champion, Froch is 11/2 at best with Stan James and Kessler a top-priced 7/1 at sportingbet.

Ward is 13/8 favourite with the last-named firm, Arthur Abraham is available at 9/4 with Boylesports, Dirrell is 18/1 with bet365 and Taylor 40/1 with sportingbet.
