Tired Barneveld eased for world title despite win

Betting Press Staff - 31 Dec 2009

Despite reaching the quarter-finals, Raymond van Barneveld has been eased out to 11/1 to win the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship after looking fatigued during his latest win.

The Dutchman, who hit a nine-darter in the previous round, prevailed 4-1 against Kevin Painter but visibly wilted during the fourth set before battling back.

"I can't seem to produce my game on the stage at the moment," Barney told pdc.tv. "I became really tired in the fourth set but managed to come through."

James Wade also survived a scare to sneak through 4-3 after opponent Andy Hamilton had led 3-2 and missed an attempt at double 18 for the match.

"Sometimes it's about winning ugly and I managed to do that, but I know I'll need to up my performance to get past Simon Whitlock," said Wade, who is 10/1 to go all the way with the sponsors.

There is no doubting which is the best quarter-final, however, as 2/5 outright favourite Phil Taylor takes on in-form 10/1 shot Adrian Lewis at Alexandra Palace.

The Power is 1/7 with Ladbrokes to prevail, but Jackpot Lewis fired 10 maximums and an average of 103 when beating Kevin McDine 4-0 last time out and many will be tempted by the 4/1 on offer for an upset.

"I'm not frightened of Phil anymore, I'm really looking forward to playing him," Lewis told PDC.tv. "I won't fold before I go on stage against him like I might have done in the past and it's going to go all the way."
