Box-office hit expected to follow up Golden Globes success

Avatar is a hot favourite to follow up success at the Golden Globes by also taking the Oscar for Best Film following the nominations for this year's awards.

William Hill make the much-hyped box-office hit a 1/2 chance to top the voting on March 7, with The Hurt Locker available at 2/1 and Up In The Air 7/1.

However, Hills cannot split the big two directors, with James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow both quoted at 5/6 to prevail in this category.

"Avatar is breaking all records and is a worthy favourite but I wonder if the committee will show a sense of humour and give the Best Director to his ex Kathryn," said Hills spokesman Rupert Adams.

Jeff Bridges is rated a banker bet at 2/9 to take the Best Actor gong for Crazy Heart, with Up In The Air star George Clooney 7/2.

However, the Best Actress market is more open, with Sandra Bullock 5/6 to get the nod for The Blind Side, Meryl Streep of Julia and Julia 11/8 and Britain's Carey Mulligan 4/1 for An Education.

Hills are also offering 6/4 that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will work the red carpet together on the big night.
