Memorable FA Cup moments – Tottenham v City

Betting Press Staff - 3 Jul 2009

We have enjoyed so many memorable FA Cup moments, but one that saw amazing football betting was the night Man City came back from 3 behind to beat Tottenham.

It was a cold February night back in 2004 and Spurs had just notched their 3rd goal without reply just on half time. As if that was not bad enough for City Joey Barton was sent off as the players were leaving the field. Hence, if you were going to have an in play bet on football surely a City win would be the last thing on your mind.

During the half time interval Kevin Keegan told his players not to forget the City supporters who had made the long journey for this mid-week match and to make sure and show some pride. But even an optimistic Keegan could not have dreamt what was to follow. Distin pulled one back immediately after the break, it looked just a consolation and the football betting hardly changed. City were 3-1 down and down to 10 men. Then Bosvelt added a 2nd and it was game on. City had been available at odds of over 100/1 at the interval and when Shaun Wright-Phillips levelled with 10 minutes to go you just wondered if it was going to be one of those special FA Cup moments.

The inspiring stuff that dreams are made of were totally realised when Macken headed the late late winner. It had been football betting carnage for those who were with Spurs at half time. But in witnessing such FA Cup moments one felt privileged in viewing the magic of the FA Cup.

The papers the following day were full of stories on how many lucky punters had won plenty for small stakes giving us a glaring example of why we all love to bet on football.
