British Grand Prix 10/3 to be axed in 2010

William Hill are offering 10/3 that next year's British Grand Prix is scrapped altogether after serious doubts emerged over Donington's ability to stage the race.

Despite securing a 17-year contract from Formula One chiefs to host the oldest event in the calendar, the circuit's parent company has failed to raise sufficient funds to cover the cost of redeveloping the track.

"Despite higher than expected levels of interest and very positive early indications, the bond has failed to secure enough subscription," said a statement from Donington Ventures Leisure Limited.

The management team still have until Monday to "remedy a breach of contract" with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone but Hills now go 9/1 that Donington is the venue for the July 11 spectacular.

The British GP is, however, 1/4 to switch back to Silverstone, home of the event for the last 23 years and scene of Sebastian Vettel's success this June.

"Moving the Grand Prix has been an absolute disaster and we feel that there is now a real chance that there will be no British race in 2010," said Hills spokesman Rupert Adams.
