Felipe Massa, 8/1 with Betfred to win the Drivers Championship, has done his best to quash doubts over his ability to compete again in Formula One, after an impressive first day of official winter testing.
The Brazilian missed the second half of last season after suffering a fractured skull in a crash at the Hungarian Grand Prix, but has since proved his fitness.
The 28-year-old was pleased with the new Ferrari during the session, as he topped the timesheets with Pedro de la Rosa in second in the BMW Sauber while comeback king Michael Schumacher (4/1 to win the title) was third in his Mercedes.
Massa insisted that he felt “very good” from a “physical point of view” but believes there is more to come from both he and the car.
The Ferrari driver said: “From what we have seen we are going in the right direction, but of course we know there is still a lot of work to do.”
