McLaren's Jenson Button 9/1 to retain his Formula One title

Betting Press Staff - 12 Mar 2010

Jenson Button is priced at 9/1 with Ladbrokes to retain his Formula One crown ahead of the start of the new campaign this weekend.

This is the biggest price offered about a defending champion in 13 years, the last one was Damon Hill when he was backed at 50/1 in 1997.

The Frome Flyer’s McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton is 7/2 to claim his second title with rival Fernando Alonso 9/4 favourite for the accolade – The Spaniard is the same price to win the opening race in Bahrain.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: “Button will face a thorough examination of his credentials both internally from Hamilton but also from the rest of the big four."
