Ireland on drift but still favourites for World Cup

Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell remain in an upbeat mood going into the final round of the Omega Mission Hills World Cup despite seeng Ireland's lead whittled down to one shot on day three in China.

Defending champions Sweden and Italy are hot on the heels of the Emerald Isle pair after outshining the leading duo's 64 with rounds of 62 and 61 respectively.

However, McIlroy told europeantour.com: "It was still a productive day and we are still very positive going into tomorrow.

"We seemed to play the same holes well and that doesn't work very well in fourball, but we both played well and are still in a good position."

McDowell added: "It seems to be a three horse race and we are both playing well and playing with a lot of confidence."

Ireland's odds for victory have drifted considerably but they remain favourites at a top-priced 6/5 with Stan James.

Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson are 15/8 at best with William Hill to retain the title and the same firm go 7/2 for the Molinari brothers Edoardo and Francesco to prevail.
