Taking a massive step down in grade Richard Hannon's Stags Leap is bound to be in warm order in an intriguing handicap but with a few doubts about him we'll instead turn to the on-form EXCEEDTHEWILDMAN while Epic shouldn't be ignored.
Stags Leap was racing in Group Three company the last time we saw him having previously won a decent maiden and a conditions race. All the signs point to perhaps this one being a bit too classy for this field but with this being his first go in a handicap and on the polytrack we'll just overlook this time in preference for Exceedthewildman. Stan Moore's colt has been in a spot of form recently having won twice and finished second twice on his last four runs. He's up a couple of pound in the handicap for his narrow defeat to an in-form animal last time and he looks the safest option under his current weight and on this surface. Epic is from a yard going great guns and should go well despite having form to overturn on the pick wild Clive Brittain can't stop sending out winners so his Bint Doyen is respected having previously contested at Group Two level. This is a fascinating contest where Exceedthewildman is just the preferred option.

Much of HURAKAN's chance will depend on his run here on Monday but even so on these terms he should go well in this claimer and gets the selection ahead of War Of The Roses while the on-form Lytham looks interesting despite being up against it at the weights.
A winner of back-to-back races at Kempton prior to Monday's run it would seem the selection is in a bit of form. He's the type of animal that the yard do well with and barring a disaster two days previous he has every chance on these terms. War Of The Roses drops into this grade for the first time having found life tough in handicaps off of his current rating. His Lingfield strike rate is good and if running up to his best he rates a live contender. Lytham is on a four timer having landed three Kempton Handicaps in a row. He's just as effective at this circuit so despite adverse terms remains on the shortlist. Both Strong Storm and Turnham Green will have to improve to be winning here so with a keen eye on Monday's race we give Hurakan the nod.

Richard Hughes is an interesting booking on Byblos, who ran well in maiden at Kempton on his return to the level last time, but STAR CHOICE is the form animal in this handicap so lands the vote with Prince Charlemagne also considered.
Having threatened to win a race off this mark for some time the selection duly obliged in an apprentice contest on his last go and as such is un-penalised. The manner of that success suggested he's not done yet so he rates as a confident selection. That said Byblos could be a fly in the ointment having impressed when returning to this sphere last time with a good run at Kempton. He looks competitively treated now in a handicap but the way he got outpaced last time suggests to us this track will not be ideal. Prince Charlemagne was a little disappointing back in these ranks on his last run but with a pound off his back should be a leading contender with his win three starts back suggesting there's more in the locker. Mustajed found only an on-form hotpot too good off this rating on his last run so should be in the mix again but allowed to turn out under his winning mark of last time Star Choice is the star choice.

The well-bred and expensive MAGIC OMEN was promising on debut and should improve for a yard notorious for progressing their charges so he gets the call in this maiden with Shamir and Aetos also on the list.
With his price rising from $160,000 to $250,000 as a yearling it would appear that connections have high hopes for the selection who found just a red-hot favourite too good on debut. Mark Johnston usually brings his charges on nicely so we have every confidence this well-bred colt can go in this time. Shamir held his form well as a two-year-old promising that he can win a race like this especially with the form working out well from his last three runs. He has a very chance of getting on top on his belated re-appearance with fitness the only worry. Aetos shaped well on his own first start while looking in need of the outing although he will also have to prove fitness while Sayyedati Strom is the most interesting newcomer for a yard who have gone well with limited runners so far this winter. Plenty of these horses will win races but Magic Omen looks the best call to be the first.

Towy Boy looks over-priced at the forecast odds so if allowed to go off at double figure price he looks a decent each-way play in this wide-open handicap but Saddler's Bend and PHA MAI BLUE were both unlucky not to score last time ad we just side with the latter.
A former course and distance winner the pick nearly added to a decent track record when narrowly denied given this assignment last time. This doesn't look any tougher so off the same mark has a chance to go one better, Also under the same burden as a narrow defeat last time out is Saddler's Bend, who took advantage of a low looking mark to score on his UK debut before scraping home under the same weight two starts ago. He only just missed out under a penalty last time and although also under the same burden those runs were at Wolverhampton and we wait to see if this faster surface suits. Towy Boy is up a couple of pounds for a short-head reverse on his last run so must be given a shot at the minor prizes at a price while Suhayl Star also goes well at this venue and is weighted for an assault on some of the place money. Copperwood remains interesting after back to back victories but the assessor may now be in charge so instead we like Pha Mai Blue after that close shave last time.

LOPINOT has a likeable profile and after a decent run in defeat on his last start gets the vote in another tight handicap with King Canute given a chance to build on victory last time and Jord is an old favourite who might get involved in a race that won't take much winning.
The selection has a decent strike rate for one with so many races under the belt and his latest performance when only beaten by a subsequent winner shows he's still got what it takes. This will be his first foray over seven furlongs for a while but with a score over it in the past he looks the leading player. King Canute made waves on his return from over a year out to find just the one too good before scoring on his last run with both efforts coming at Kempton. It's that track that has seen his best performances on the all-weather but with still relatively few races under the belt he could have more to offer. The two we've looked at are the only ones coming into this is any sort of form but Jord is given a squeak of getting involved off a competitive rating but with nothing else make much appeal the vote stays with Lopinot.

Sherjawy is likely to be in warm order for this four-runner handicap but with the Diktat gelding running from out of the handicap after a narrow defeat under a weight similar to that of his revised mark we find enough to oppose him in favour of WOTASHIRTFULL, after his narrow defeat in a better class race last time, with Step It Up looking best of the remaining pair.
Having tasted defeat for the first time at this venue in three runs last time when missing out by less than a length the selection has had his mark reduced by a pound. That contest in class terms was better than this so if running up to the same level he should go in. Sherjawy races from four pounds out of the handicap and only just missed out on a follow up success last time when running under a penalty. The concern is he effectively up in the weights despite defeat which is enough to put us off. Step It Up is five pounds heavier than when last in front and based on his recent best he'll need weight removed before scoring while Vhujon is on a long losing run which doesn't inspire confidence. It's a poor turnout which might throw the form book out of the window but we like course specialist Wotashirtfull.

In a horror handicap to sort out we marginally prefer the chances of JOIN UP over Binnion Bay and Machinate.
The pick only found an extremely well treated and fancied newcomer from the George Baker yard too good last time and in time that form will look useful for this level. Previous to that he was unlucky to bump into another well treated one from the same yard. He races off the same mark as those two efforts and with nothing like that pair in this line-up he has an opportunity to get in front. Binnion Bay is the only last time out winner in this line-up but having just held on that day the extra weight on his back and the extra yardage to travel look against him this time. Machinate's win in an apprentice handicap two starts back promised more to come so despite only a solid un last time he could go well again in a weak race. Turkish Sultan has looked back to form in both of his last starts and after a really narrow defeat on his last run he has a chance off the same rating but in a really tricky puzzle Join Up looks like the missing piece.
