17:30 Wolverhampton

A competitive opener in which CHJIMES is given the narrow vote ahead of Klynch and Monte Major.

Although Conor Dore's gelding does have a little to find at these weights, there is a fair chance that he will get the early pace that he needs in order to strike late and that could be enough to take this obvious drop in class. Klynch is the clear choice on BHA ratings. That said, his trainer is on something of a losing run so he might not be one to row in at short prices about. Monte Major has been in rude health this winter. He accounted for Misaro earlier in the month though that horse enjoys a 2lb pull at the weights for a short head beating. Malcolm Saunders can have them ready first time out so don't be surprised to see any interest about Pennyspider despite that sizeable absence. The remainder seem to have it all to do on paper. Chjimes would have made more appeal at Lingfield but with others out of form, he could be in a position to capitalise.

LAYLA'S PRINCE is the tentative selection ahead of Sir Frank Wappat and Zinjbar.

David Nicholls' charge has had two starts as a juvenile before stumps were drawn on that campaign. Given that the owner has decided to keep faith rather than go to the sales, one presumes that he has shown something noteworthy on the gallops. Sir Frank Wappat has to be respected as should any maiden from the Mark Johnston team. He was a well backed favourite at Nottingham but disappointed greatly as he appeared to hang quite badly. Zinjbar brings Newmarket form to the table. She had plenty of chances last year and should rate as the yardstick for the assessor. Born A Dancer was outclassed in a sales race last time out and should enjoy this drop back in grade. Lucas Pitt's finishing position on debut was all the more remarkable given that he lost many lengths at the start. Golden Ratio's first appearance at the racecourse was one that suggested that it would not be lost upon her this time around. Layla's Prince is not without a few issues in relation to the formbook but in a race where the market will tell us plenty, he gets the vote without reference to it.

ISHIADANCER can lower the colours of Cheviot and Dubai Dynamo.

Eric Alston's mare does have the benefit of recent racecourse experience and having won over course and distance, at the predicted odds she makes a fair degree of appeal. Cheviot missed the majority of last year having acquitted himself creditably in a couple of sprints on turf. A winner at Kempton, his ability to act on an artificial surface is not in question. Dubai Dynamo shaped well over an inadequate six furlongs last time out and it would be no surprise to see this proven miler go close. Rulesn'regulations was a useful juvenile performer and if Matty Salaman has him back to anything like his best, he has to be a player. Steve Gollings has been among the winners of late and The Kyllachy Kid, who was formerly trained by Tom Tate, is tried in first time cheekpieces. Ishiadancer does need to find improvement to win this but could make matchfitness count.

An above average claimer and COBO BAY can see off Bonnie Prince Blue and Seasider.

Kevin Ryan's front runner probably did not get home over nine furlongs last time but he is far better than a plater and this opportunity can be taken ahead of a tilt at an early season prize on the turf. Bonnie Prince Blue has been busy in France and won a valuable claimer over there. He faces a little more to do on official figures. Seasider is one of the few genuine seven furlong performers in this field. That said, the former Sir Michael Stoute charge, has proved a little below par in his last couple of runs. Lord Fidelio has been kept busy over the winter and with his trainer, Ollie Pears, a regular scorer in claimers, he cannot be written off so readily. Arken Lad comes in off a feather weight and the booking of Paul Hanagan seems significant. Ravi River has become something of a regular in events of this type. He reportedly broke a blood vessel at Lingfield last time out but did win a similar race off 10 stones around here. Cobo Bay is the class act in this contest and if given a soft lead, he could prove impossible to peg back.

19:30 Wolverhampton

SATWA MOON is the selection in this race with Jeer and Houston Dynimo likely to represent the biggest dangers.

Ed Dunlop's charge does have to prove that he stays this trip but he won over nine furlongs in an apprentices race and with no penalty accrued for that victory, there is a cogent argument to suggest that he could be well treated off his current BHA mark. Mick Easterby has been amongst the winners of late so Jeer has to enter calculations. He did not appear to stay the extended two miles last time out but he has shown plenty of ability over similar trips to today in the past. Houston Dynimo is a rare flat runner for Nicky Richards. He was not unfancied when delivering victory over course and distance in February. Hannicean defied a substantial market drift to oblige in January. He is not without his quirks and was disappointing when favourite for a similar contest last month. Jeff Pearce has been consistently amongst the winners at Wolverhampton during the winter so Quince has to be put into the equation. The gelding is set to be tried in first time blinkers. Satwa Moon appears to have scared off much of the meaningful opposition though expect to see him priced accordingly.

FORWARD FELINE is chanced at the expense of Dajen and King's Icon.

Bryn Palling's charge is actually well treated on some of his form of last year and while his better form has been over shorter, he produced an encouraging staying on effort at Lingfield under David Probert last time. Dajen makes a first visit to Dunstall Park. He shapes as if the step up in trip may prove to his advantage. King's Icon landed a gamble for the Michael Wigham stable last time out. The assessor has only the penalty to apply as his weapon of choice. Trade Centre is better known in claiming grade though has popped up from time to time. Alqaahir has been beaten on a couple of recent visits to Kempton. He has run well at Wolverhampton in the past so expect to see a much better performance tonight. Pachakutek could not find the winning key at Luca Cumani or Ed Vaughan's yards and the application of cheekpieces by new connections appeared to make little difference. Kladester had won previously for Bryan Smart and the booking of Paul Hanagan can be seen as a positive. Forward Feline is the call at the likely odds.

20:30 Wolverhampton

SION HILL is a token call ahead of Sworn Tigress and Corrib.

This race very much comes under the banner of betting shop fodder and it would be no surprise to see a surprise result. Though our selection does have a few months of absence to overcome, he stays the trip and has been dropped down to 50 from 53 thereby making the ceiling for this race. Sworn Tigress was victorious on her British debut for George Baker and is turned out under a penalty. If she does not exhibit the bounce factor, she is the one that they all have to beat. Corrib is a regular in low grade handicaps. The handicapper was clearly impressed by a recent second at the course although connections probably weren't quite so keen. Chris Wall does not have too many horses in this bracket so Stanley Rigby has to be a player. Richard Price has his string operating in fair nick at present so don't dismiss Red Dagger too lightly. Artreju is well treated in regard to some of his earlier form for Gary Moore. Recent efforts have been little to write home about. Yakama is proven as moderate though in a poor affair, rates best of the rest. A race that has very little to recommend it and at the likely odds, Sion Hill makes appeal to the most minimal of stakes.

BY COMMAND can take the nightcap with Ella Woodcock and Mr Hichens others worthy of note.

Kevin Ryan's charge could plummet in the market if Satwa Moon obliges earlier in the programme so it could be worth getting the early prices. He can be quite a nervous individual but Neil Callan should know him well enough. Ella Woodcock has gone up the weights though the handicapper has had little option on account of a renewed zest for the game. Mr Hichens ran some decent races for Brian Meehan in the past though his plummet down the ratings has not been without good reason. Bob Stock did not enjoy life at Southwell and has been swiftly switched back to the polytrack. Efficiency showed well on a return from a long absence and the market is noted to see if connections envisage any further improvement. Tevez has scored somewhat less than his footballing namesake. Ninth House needs no introduction to regulars at Dunstall Park and while he will run his race, his yard are not in great nick at present. A trappy affair but if By Command can handle the preliminaries, he has the class to make it count.
