MotoGP is the premier motorcycle racing class.

Tthe riders racing on prototype bikes from the major Japanese manufacturers, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha plus the Italian firm Ducati.

The big question for this year is whether Casey Stoner can add to Ducati’s and his recent 2007 success by challenging Valentino Rossi for the championship this year – these two riders being clear favourites in the betting. However, the Yamaha is showing great pace at each round so far so things are looking good for Rossi. This leading pair are followed by two battling Spanish riders, Jorge Lorenzo on the second factory Yamaha and Dani Pedrosa on the leading Honda – these two riders will obviously be desperate to beat each other. The betting markets on oddschecker are favouring Lorenzo - Honda still don’t seem to have found enough speed to look as though they can challenge at every circuit and they are stuck in an unprecedented barren spell.

That said at this early stage the standings are close, with the big 4 all scoring regularly and with the generous MotoGP points system of 25 points for a win, followed by 20, 16, 13 then 11 points to one for 15th place things can obviously change very fast.

From a British perspective James Toseland has struggled so far and by his own admission needs to make a step forward, teammate Colin Edwards having already showing that the Tech 3 Yamaha has pace decent pace.
