Best yet to come from Kyle Eastmond, says St Helens coach

St Helens coach Mick Potter insists we have not seen the best of Kyle Eastmond after the 20-year-old put in another match-winning performance at the GPW Recruitment Stadium.

Saints are currently joint second favourites with Wigan Warriors to win the Grand Final at 4/1 with Boylesports.

The England international was in scintillating form against Warrington where he grabbed a try and six goals as the Saints ran out 28-18 winners in front of a sell-out crowd in horrendous conditions.

St Helens legend Alex Murphy was in the crowd and Eastmond’s try in the seventh minute was reminiscent  of the great man, as he dipped his shoulder to duck under two tacklers before sprinting away to score.

Although it is too early in Eastmond’s career to compare him with someone like Murphy, the scrum-half certainly has a huge future in the game, which can only be good for Super League and the international game in this country.

Potter said: “Nothing seems to be a problem for him and again we had to move him out of position in the second half because Paul Wellens had a reoccurrence of his injury. It just shows what sort of quality the young guy has got.

“He has got a great kicking game and he can pass. I really don’t think we have seen the best of Kyle yet.”

Potter was also pleased with his goal kicking as he slotted two over from the touchline in terrible conditions and believes the more you practice the more you get better.

Potter added: “He practices and that is an indication of how dedicated he his. He spends a lot of time practicing and does a lot of work with Tommy Martyn.

“It is no coincidence that his practice is showing in his percentages.”
