Brettt Hodgson 12-1 to retain Man of Steel crown

Betting Press Staff - 5 Feb 2010

Huddersfield Giants full-back Brett Hodgson is priced at 12-1 with William Hill to retain his Man of Steel award he won last season.

The former Wests Tigers, New South Wales and Australia international beat off competition from James Graham and Adrian Morley to win the award for the best player in Super League and is now the fifth favourite to become the first player to retain the trophy since former Great Britain captain Paul Sculthorpe in 2001 and 2002.

Current England captain Jamie Peacock, who won the title back in 2003 while playing for Bradford, is the bookies favourite at 8-1, with fellow power horses Adrian Morley from Warrington and St Helens’ James Graham just behind at 10-1.

Last season’s young player of the year Sam Tomkins is commanding a price at 20-1 in the current market ahead of Wigan’s opening Super League clash against Crusaders on Friday, while fellow youngster Kyle Eastmond, who enjoyed a good campaign with St Helens and England last time out, is available at 16-1.

As an outside bet Wigan’s points machine Pat Richards can be attained at 50-1 while Super League’s most expensive teenager Richie Myler can be priced at 40-1 following his switch from Salford to Warrington.
