Betting Press Staff - 8 Feb 2010

England international prop forward Sam Burgess impressed on his South Sydney Rabbitohs debut as Blue Square’s 16-1 tip to win the NRL Grand Final warmed up for the start of the new campaign with a warm-up victory.

The Bunnies, who are also 16-1 with the same company to claim the wooden spoon for finishing last, fielded a scratch side that overcame fifth favourites to win the competition Manly, at 9-1, 42-12 at the Redfern Oval, in which Burgess crossed for a try in his 20 minute cameo appearance.

With the season set to start on March 12 every NRL outfit will be getting ready to start their pre-season campaign and Blue Square currently have reigning champions Melbourne Storm as their 11-2 favourites, while St George Illawarra – who won last year’s Minor Premiership after ending the regular season top of the ladder – are only fourth favourites with prices available at 8-1 to win the Grand Final and are 13-2 to retain the Minor Premiership title.

In other betting relating to the NRL Blue Square have the Canberra Raiders 5-1 favourites to finish bottom of the pile at the end of the season, while you can get the Sydney City Roosters at 8-1 for the same outcome.
