Federer all the rage for ATP World Tour Finals

Betting Press Staff - 20 Nov 2009

Andy Murray will have the biggest support at the ATP World Tour Finals in London but Roger Federer is proving the most popular player with punters ahead of The O2 event.

The Swiss ace has been drawn in the same section as the Scot but faces arguably the easiest Group A opponent in Fernando Verdasco in Sunday's opening round of fixtures.

Federer is 1/5 with Coral to come out on top here and Verdasco 10/3, while Murray is a 2/5 chance to beat Juan Martin Del Potro, with the US Open hero 7/4.

In the outright market, world No 1 Federer has been backed in from 11/4 to 5/2 with the Barking firm, while Murray is 10/3.

"Murray faces a tough opening match, but with a huge home following he has a great chance of winning the season finale," said Coral spokesman Gary Burton.

"However, the majority of the outright money has been for Mr Consistent Federer."

It's a similar story at Ladbrokes, who did have Federer and Novak Djokovic as 11/4 joint-favourites but have now cut the former to a 5/2 clear market leader.

"Initially we couldn't separate the top two in the betting, but punters are beginning to get behind Federer," said spokesman Nick Weinberg.

At the time of writing, Federer is currently a top-priced 13/5 with Boylesports, Djokovic can be backed at 11/4 in several places, Murray is 17/4 at best with expekt.com and Rafael Nadal 17/2 at Boylesports.
