Amir Khan 7/2 to KO Paulie Malignaggi

Amir Khan is coming in for overwhelming patriotic support ahead of his debut fight in America on Saturday night.

The Bolton boxer, who boasts 16 knockouts in his 22-1 professional record, has been heavily backed to KO former IBF world light-welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in his home town of New York, forcing Sky Bet to slash the odds to 7/2 (from 15/2).

While motor-mouth Malignaggi remains friendless in the betting, Khan has been backed down to 11/10 (from 2/1) to win by any method in rounds 1-12 and is 1/6 (from 1/5) for outright victory.

Khan will be desperate to put in a show at Madison Square Garden in a bid to install himself as a household name across the Atlantic and after he annihilated Dmitry Salita with a stunning first-round knockout last December, he has been well backed to wrap up this fight in the opening round, with Sky Bet cutting the odds to 16/1 from 33/1.

On the same day that Khan takes on Malignaggi in New York, Kevin Mitchell fights Michael Katsidis at Upton Park and Sky Bet go 11/10 that both Brits emerge triumphant, while it’s 13/2 that they both seal victory within rounds 1-12.

Sky Bet make Khan 1/4 favourite to beat Mitchell (11/4, draw 33/1) should the pair face each other this year.

Sky Bet’s boxing betting spokesman Scott Springgay said: “On the face of it, Maglinaggi should be a perfect opponent for Khan as he has a low knockout record and shouldn’t give Khan’s questionable chin a tough test but this is the best fighter Khan has fought and does pose a danger.
