Chelsea FC to secure Diego Costa signing?

Chelsea FC have £37.1million from the sale of Juan Mata burning a hole in their pocket and now is the time to back them to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

Our Special Market Bet of the Day for Tuesday January 28 – back Chelsea to be Diego Costa’s next club at 6/4 with Paddy Power

Media reports linking the Atletico Madrid forward with a move to Stamford Bridge are strengthening all the time, and this has now gone way beyond the realm of newspaper tittle-tattle just to get fans excited during the January transfer window.

We are not saying Costa will sign for Chelsea in the next few days to help their Premier League title cause, instead that a deal looks highly likely to happen in the summer after his terrific campaign with Atletico has been completed.

Jose Mourinho clearly wants a marquee striker signing to match the ability of his star performers Eden Hazard and Oscar who provide the creativity, with none of his current centre forwards clearly floating the Special One’s boat.

Fernando Torres is too hit and miss, Samuel Eto’s only on a one-year deal and already talking about heading back to Mallorca in the summer, Demba Ba lacks the required quality and Romelu Lukaku upset Mourinho by wanting to go out on loan again last August as he felt he would not be given a chance.

Essentially, none of that quartet looks to be the man Mourinho wants to spearhead his attack for the next few years and it’s Costa who, as a result of the fantastic season he is enjoying in Spain, has emerged as the prime target.

Reports suggest a swap deal could be in the offing with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has also shone for Atletico on loan from Chelsea, being used as a makeweight at least – even though he appears a natural successor to Petr Cech.

It’s not as though the Blues cannot afford a hefty transfer fee now they have the Mata funds swilling around their coffers, so a summer move for Costa certainly looks a good bet – and the price available of 6/4 does not even have a time constraint.

Recommendation: Chelsea in the Diego Costa Next Club market @ 6/4 with Paddy Power
