Ferrari's new chassis boost for Felipe Massa

Felipe Massa hopes a new Ferrari chassis will bring him a change of fortune at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The Brazilian driver endured a dreadful start to the 2012 Formula One season in Australia, where he qualified 16th and retired from the race following a collision with compatriot Bruno Senna.

But the Italian team are confident that under-fire Massa, team-mate of Fernando Alonso, will bounce back at the Sepang circuit.

Massa’s problems are reflected by the fact he is a 100/1 outsider with Bet365 to win in Malaysia, whereas Alonso is a mere 20/1 chance.

A statement on the Ferrari website read: “Felipe has certainly been the target of criticism after the race in Melbourne.

“But he is used to this situation and remembers well 2008 when after two races, he had a zero in the points column and many of the media were calling for him to be fired on the spot. That year, only a few exceptional circumstances denied him the World Championship.

“Felipe knows he can count on the team to do everything, from both the technical and operational points of view, to put him in a better state to show off his talents.

“For example, work has already begun in the Sepang pits to prepare chassis number 294, which replaces number 293 and will be used by Massa in the second race of the season.

“The choice was taken to clear up any doubts about the unusual performance of his car during the weekend in Melbourne.”
